Conference: Pollution in orbit!

ISAE SUPAERO ENSICA Alumni is pleased to invite you to their next conference, in partnership with the Groupe Aéronautique & Espace Paris des Arts & Métiers :

How are the international legal framework and space industry players organized to deal with the risk of collision in orbit? What are the solutions for detecting and monitoring space debris? To reduce space pollution and decongest low-Earth orbit? To eco-design future space missions and regulate space traffic?

Answers from Christophe Bonnal, senior expert engineer at CNES and Chairman of the International Academy of Astronautics' "Space Debris" Commission.

The environmental crisis isn't just happening on Earth: above our heads, millions of pieces of waste are floating around - satellites at the end of their lives, debris from missions, explosions or collisions. In addition to this orbiting waste, there are operational satellites and stations which, despite their evasive maneuvers, naturally add to the general risk of collision. At a time when the use of Space has become ubiquitous in our daily lives (telecommunications, geolocation, Earth observation, climate monitoring, defense, exploration of the universe, .), its continued existence is threatened by the proliferation of space debris. This poses a threat not only to future space missions, but also to our own safety and to astronomers. If nothing is done, space debris will increase exponentially, rendering certain orbits unusable.

Practical information

As usual, the conference will be followed by a cocktail reception to extend the discussions over a friendly drink, and then, for those who wish, a dinner in the presence of the speakers.
