Julie MANET
Impressionist memory
The Musée Marmottan Monet organizes the first exhibition ever devoted to Julie Manet, only daughter of Berthe Morisot and niece of Edouard Manet. Entitled "Julie Manet, la mémoire impressionniste". As the legatee of Julie Manet through her children, and custodian of the world's first collection of Berthe Morisot's work as well as of the family's collections, the Musée Marmottan Monet wishes to shed light on Julie Manet's role in the life of the arts.
This event will highlight three aspects of her career. The first section will evoke her childhood and adolescence, presenting her family circle and friends. The next section will highlight the collecting work of Julie Manet and her husband Ernest Rouart. In addition to the pieces inherited from Berthe Morisot, works acquired by the couple will be presented: Hubert Robert, Corot, Degas and large panels of Monet's Water Lilies, which she was one of the few collectors to acquire before Michel Monet's death in 1966. A final section will be dedicated to the many gifts, bequests and dations made by Julie Manet and her entourage to French museums, and to the work of Monet in general.more generally, the family's efforts to promote the work of Berthe Morisot and Edouard Manet. Contributing to the enrichment of France's national heritage will thus be a real concern for the descendants of the first female Impressionist.
Admission and headphones included.
