Plasma propulsion for satellites

Conference with or without dinner in partnership with Société des Arts & Métiers

The Groupe Professionnel Aéronautique & Espace Paris, in partnership with ISAE SUPAERO ENSICA Alumni, invites you to take part in their next conference: "Plasma propulsion for satellites".

In addition to chemical propulsion, electric motors are gradually gaining ground in satellite propulsion: plasma thrusters.

These engines use ionized xenon, accelerated in an electric field to a speed of 20 km/s. The use of electric propulsion reduces the mass of a telecommunications satellite by 40%, for the same payload.

Our speakers will take us through the history of the development of electric propulsion since the 90s, its operating principle and the constraints involved in implementing it on a satellite. Current and future developments at Safran will also be discussed. These concern both high and low power, particularly for satellite constellations.

Benjamin Laurent, head of the plasma thruster design department at Safran Aircraft Engines

Stéphan Zurbach, Senior Expert Engineer in Combustion & Plasma Physics at Safran Tech.

Practical information:

As usual, the conference will be followed by a cocktail reception to extend the discussions over a friendly drink, and then, for those who wish, a dinner in the presence of the speakers.

For organizational reasons,registration for the dinner will close on Sunday June 12. We recommend that you register now, as seating for the dinner is limited.
