Startup Fundraising - Spaceflight Institute
What if the next generation of astronauts were trained in Toulouse?
Manned spaceflight is undergoing a major transformation. With the end of the ISS in sight, commercial space stations are taking over, and low-Earth orbit is becoming an area of intense activity. Lower access costs are paving the way for new private players and the emergence of new national agencies developing their own manned programs.
Until now, only public agencies such as NASA and ESA have trained astronauts, through lengthy institutional processes designed for their needs. But this model is changing: private companies are now starting to have their own missions and crews, requiring tailored training.
However, training these new professionals is not the sole responsibility of space agencies, whose role remains focused on their institutional programs. It is therefore essential to create private structures capable of supporting this transition.
The new space agencies face the same challenge: they need to structure their manned programs and be able to draw on European expertise, not only via public institutions, but also through private initiatives such as the Spaceflight Institute.
With established agencies unable to absorb this transition on their own, there is an urgent need for more agile and operational training. And yet, until now, no private organization has prepared these professionals.
To fill this gap, we founded the Spaceflight Institute, supported by several ISAE-SUPAERO alumni, including Jonathan Pickworth and Stéphanie Lizy-Destrez, a professor at the school and a specialist in space systems design. Our ambition is to structure a benchmark training program to prepare professionals for the challenges of manned missions and the requirements of future private operators.
We are developing an offer combining academic expertise, industrial experience and a pragmatic approach, anchored in the needs of future space programs. The challenge is to train the astronauts, engineers, doctors and mission operators who will play a key role in this new era.
To support this growth, we are currently in the process of raising funds to accelerate our development and meet rapidly increasing demand. With a fast-expanding market and a growing need for specialized training, this is the ideal time to build an ambitious, sustainable project.
